Blending Pilates and Boxing, Piloxing Class Debuts on Jan. 25 at Five Seasons Burr Ridge

Merging the movements and methods of both Pilates and boxing, Piloxing has arrived at Five Seasons Family Sports Club in Burr Ridge.

In addition to the two activities whose names help form “Piloxing,” the program also incorporates a bit of ballet and dance as transitional elements in a high-intensity interval workout.

The class will be held each Wednesday, with the first session on January 25th from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the club, 6901 S. Madison.

Piloxing was created by Viveca Jensen, a professional dancer, certified International Pilates instructor, body builder and trained boxer. Although Jensen has been teaching Piloxing for about three years, it's relatively new to the Chicago area and Five Seasons instructor Linda Hillsman is among the earliest group fitness instructors to be certified to teach it.

The class is a great outlet for those who want to develop their core strength and balance, and the regimen can be modified to suit varying fitness levels, said Hillsman.

“We focus on developing core strength through exercises that also challenge your balance. We finish the class with about 15 minutes of floor work,” Hillsman said. “The class really moves along as we transition between the cardio intensity of boxing with the controlled core movement of Pilates, making the class very interval in nature.”

Open to Five Seasons members and non-members alike, for more information please contact the club at 630-570-5200. In addition to its site at 6901 S. Madison in Burr Ridge, Five Seasons is online at www.facebook.com/FiveSeasonsBurrRidge.
